Teachers as Researchers
Description
ECI 523 helped me understand how to perform and analyze action research in my classroom to improve my practice. It also gave me the opportunity to collaborate with other teachers; we were able to share our research with each other to gain deeper insights.
Sub-Question: How can I more fully engage and motivate reluctant readers in my classroom?
Answer:
I promoted self selection, sustained silent reading time, graphic novels, and struggling reader dyads to motivate my reluctant readers. This paper outlines my research process and findings.
This Prezi outlines how to teach children word recognition. I included this because I also found in my research that readers are reluctant typically because they have not been successful with reading in the past. As word recognition skills improve, confidence builds. Students then read more because they are not afraid of failure.
I am also including action research I did with a partner about cognitive flexibility, or helping children to comprehend as they decode. When comprehension skills improve, readers become more motivated.
